Growth in the city of Chelsea continued steadily over the last decade; the 2020 census showed 5,467 residents, a 10.5 percent increase over 2010, as open land on the city's periphery was filled in. Nearby Lima Township notched an even bigger increase of 20.5 percent, from 3,340 to 4,024, and seemed on track to overtake its historic neighbor in years to come. Almost every American household has a little bit of Chelsea in the pantry-Jiffy baking mixes are made here, and always have been.
